1. Choose three (3) nursing diagnoses from those formulated in case study, that you
would assign the highest priority. The nursing diagnoses should be written in the
following format: (ND title) related to (etiology) as manifested by
(signs/symptoms/data).
2. List these 3 nursing diagnoses in order of priority and provide a rationale for doing so.
Your rationale for doing so should be supported by literature. Note – risk for or potential
for nursing diagnoses may have higher priority than actual nursing diagnoses. It is
expected that you will use up-to-date literature to support your rationales.
3. Reflect on the process you undertook during your assessment of the patient and
analysis of the data and explain how it demonstrates competent nursing practice. Your
discussion should relate to various units in the NAMCO National Competency Standards
for the Registered Nurse.
