Competitive Edge (USP)

What makes MBT shoes a standout is the rocker bottom shoe technology. A pioneer in the rocker sole shoes, MBT was popularised by this Swiss Company long before Skechers launched its Shape-Ups line. This original concept originated with Karl Muller, an engineer and former athlete, who intended to simulate barefoot walking. From then on, other sports footwear companies copied and made their own branded versions of MBT being targeted at fitness-oriented consumers (Joy, 2010). Although other brands have yet to prove their claims about the physical benefits of their own branded rocker sole shoes, MBT had already received a Class 1 medical product recognition in Europe, a medical license in Canada and a certificate of medical device in Australia. Other than this, more than 20 different articles have been published in peer-reviewed journals worldwide.

Pang (2008) noted that in order to compensate and create stability when wearing MBT shoes, an individual has to activate the whole body. This can benefit can benefit the individual to increase back muscle activity, improve posture, tighten buttocks and thighs and burn more calories. All while reducing stress on the ankle, knee and hip joints. This has resulted in healthcare professionals recommending MBT shoes in the treatment of backache, muscoskeletal injuries and other physical pains. Moreover, the MBT Academy engages in an ongoing dialogue with international experts and researchers in the fields of clinical medicine, physiotherapy and sports in the central R&D facility (MBT website, 2011).
