Introduction

The subject of my paper is the East African baboons in the article, What are friends for? ( 1994).  The topic explored is the essential observable behavior of the baboons in the context of the wild natural setting and as to how they interact.  The author attempts to answer the preference of female baboons in sexual mate preference and as to how proximity can indicate a special relationship between male and female baboons.  The author main conclusion from the article is that female baboons are likely to have a companion than just a mating mate.  The proximity indicates that the closer the female baboon is to a male, they are likely to consider themselves as friends.  To wrap everything up, this paper is about the preference of female baboon, how the said friendship exists between them and the benefits of the friendship it brings.

Middle

There are different ways on how primates interact with each other and the type of bond that is formed from the interaction and the differences and shared similarities of the different species.  To name one from the article, the female baboon initiates the flirty attitude and the stare to a male to catch his attention.  Once attention is caught, then the possibility of making friends with the male baboon is likely to take place.  Friendship to them is a special relationship that does not necessitates sexual relationship but more of a companionship whether it will end up in a short or long friendship.

Presumably, there are differences and similarities among the different species since we belong to one kingdom, which is the animal kingdom.  One very inevitable similarity we have is that we ought to belong in a community and that we cannot exist alone from isolation.

Human behavior is distinguished by its complexity, its variety, and its greater accomplishments, but the basic processes (shared with nonhumans) are not therefore necessarily different ( 1953).  It gives us insights such that, we as humans, no matter how we are above from the nonhuman primates, the fact still remains that we evolved from them.  We can better understand the animals in its simplest form before studying the complexity of humans in terms of interaction.

The historical development of behavior analysis can be traced through these foregoing influences. Specifically, functionalism, with its emphasis on behavior-environment relationships, the philosophy of pragmatism, with its rejection of a correspondence-based theory of truth, and evolutionary biology, all assumed a continuity of behavioral processes across species without denying the possibility of principles unique to humans (1984).  Even the great geniuses believes that it is essential to study animals since our genetic make up comprises the almost the same as that of the primates.  There is a congruence of studying nonhuman primates in relation to understanding human relationships.

CONCLUSION

Overall, there is very relevant connection in the study of nonhuman and human means of interaction and the resulting product is likely to be a relationship such as friendship to occur.  The two evidences that are being used that supports the congruency of the article that the study of primates is very applicable in the study of human relationships.  The evidences cited both came from a reliable source especially the one cited by  who is very famous and recognized in the field of Psychology.
