Identify a social policy that impacts on a service population (Homelessness)
A. Describe Purpose/intended value of the policy
• Give some background history of the policy
• Describe the intention and major feature of the policy
• In whose best interest was this policy formulated?
• To what extent were client needs, problems taken into consideration
• What are the strengths and weaknesses of the policy?
• Discuss the factors that may contribute to the constraints the policy on the service population you have identified
• At what stage did this policy go wrong?
B. Manifestation of the policy impact on clients and service delivery
• Who is affected, directly and indirectly?
• How many are affected?
• In what ways are clients (Homelessness) affected?
• What are the racial, ethnic, class and gender lens of the impact?
C. Sources of the policy
• Tracing the origin
• How committee are the key actors to this policy?
• What other policies are related to this one?
D. Efforts to influence policy
• By whom, how, what were the results?
• Agency’s role in these prior efforts?
E. Give some suggestions on how changes in the policy could improve client service
