Performance Based Pay for Teachers Will Increase Students Performance

Introduction

In the continuing efforts to build a strong relationship within the pedagogical settings, the reform to establish and increase the students’ performance is the main aim of every teachers and administrators. For over the years, the state had been attempting to discover better ways in achieving the quality education which can be only seen in the performance of the students. Since, the teachers are the closest provider of education on the students; they believe that the competency of the teachers can influence the students as well as their academic performances.

Background of the Study and Problem Statement

Traditionally, there are many innovative ways that already established to improve the quality of learning as well as in teaching. But in the broader sense, many critics discussed that educators should pay attention in the quality of teaching to achieve their aim of quality of learning. School administrators also believe that there are influences that the teachers can create to sustain and maintain the education of the students.

Research Objectives

The objectives of the study run into two important divisions. First is to establish a good idea regarding the performance-based payment system for the teachers wherein it can help to increase the performance of the students. Second is to identify the impacts of the payment system for the teachers in relation to the student’s academic performance.

Research Questions

The study identified the importance of the student’s performance and the influence of the teacher’s effort to help it increase. Therefore, the study prepared three of the other essential questions that might serve as engine in achieving the objectives of the study.

1.      How can students contribute in the payment scheme of the teachers?

2.      What is the valid reason of the school administrators and other educational leaders to include the performance-based system in their policy?

3.      How might the quality of the academic performance be ensured through the application of the performance-based payment?

Literature Review

The performance-based payment system will create a good interaction between the teachers and the students. As part of the system, this will ensure that teachers are attending the classes and working during their hours in the classroom (Lavy, 2007). The payment system helps maintain or increase the students’ achievement in reading, writing, and mathematics. Most of the educators are very optimistic in viewing the payment system as part of the entire pedagogical policy for it can help to increase the positive relationships between the teachers and as well as the parents.  The concept of the performance-based payment is entirely based on the quality of the performance and also involved sanctions for the under-performance of the teachers (Exstrom, 2006). It also includes the incentive programs and reward systems that can be ongoing or might trigger to increase the salary of the teachers. Through the payment system, the objective of the school can be established and there is a relatively contributions of the teachers towards the effectiveness of the teaching. On the other hand, the pay scheme is difficult to assess because of the criteria that meant for the teachers such as the absenteeism or test on their skills and performance (Gratz, 2005).

Methodology

The applied method utilized in the study is through the use of the questionnaires. The participants were the teachers working together in the same school. The participants will receive the questionnaires that include the important questions about the performance-based pay. Through the use of the questionnaires, the ideas and opinions of the teachers regarding the payment system can be revealed. The participants are qualified given the importance of their experience in teaching.

Analysis

Through the implemented methodology, it is identified that the teachers are concern in the academic performance of the students and they value the students’ achievement and their parents’ satisfaction. The performance-based payment systems were identified to enhance the collaboration among the teachers and encourage the positive outcome in the school and community relations. But despite of the benefits included in the payment scheme, the teachers and other educators also recognize the conflicts and other problem that may emerge in the long run of the payment scheme which definitely affects all of the educators.

Conclusion

The classroom performances vary depending on the educational system and the clarification of the goals and through the use of the productive teachers. But because of the challenges in measuring the influence of the teachers in the academic performance of the students is difficult to assess. From the gathered opinions of the teachers, the performance-based pay is a great tool in encouraging the teachers to excel more on their craft and create a difference in delivering the quality education.
