Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
used to be a noble institution consisting of good citizens. They used to have a
good reputation of being the force of the country, protecting its residents.

            However, the recent newspaper
articles depict a story of violence and overuse of power in the system. Trinidad
and Tobago Police has become known of oppressing the weak nowadays. The police
institution of Trinidad and Tobago is often the reason of complaints other than
the institution where complainants run to.

            Trinidad and Tobago government
established a “Police Complaints Authority” that will attend to the complaints
of the citizens regarding abuse of power and oppression. Police Complaints Act
17 was established since 1993 and was announced in 1995 for this reason.  Anyone
harassed by a police officer can now log in to their website and report a
complaint.
