Online Banking in Ghana

 

Introduction

            The idea of Internet or online banking according to  (1999) is to give customers access to their bank accounts via web site and to enable them to enact certain transactions on their account, given compliance with stringent security checks. Online banking is also defined as the provision of traditional banking services over the internet. Internet banking by its nature offers more convenience and flexibility to customers coupled with a virtually absolute control over their banking. Service delivery is informational and transactional. As an alternative delivery conduit for retail banking, it has all the impact on productivity imputed to Telebanking and PC-Banking. Aside that it is the most cost-efficient technological means of yielding higher productivity. Furthermore, it eliminates the barriers of distance and time and provides continual productivity for the bank to unimaginable distant customers.

 

Research Questions

            The primary research question that the researcher aims to answer is: What are the impacts of online banking on the lives of bank customers in Ghana? Specifically the research aims to answer the following questions:

1. What is the current state of online banking in Ghana?

2. What features of online banking are being used by bank customers in Ghana?

3. What are the benefits of online banking to bank customers?

4. What are the possible threats of online banking to bank customers?

 

Research Objectives

            The researcher aims to investigate on the impact of online banking on the lives of bank customers in Ghana. More specifically the following objectives will be achieved:

1. Present a clear picture of the current state of online banking in Ghana.

2. Determine the features of online banking that are being used by bank customers in Ghana.

3. Identify the benefits of online banking to bank customers.

4. Determine the possible threats of online banking to bank customers.
