What does an effective HR manager look like? What skills, competencies and knowledge does an HR manager require to become a business partner? Have the skills, competencies and knowledge required of an effective HR manager changed over the past ten years? Why?

The major aim of this assignment is to test your understanding of the course materials covered in Units 1 and 2.  You are suggested to collect information from a range of sources, for example: corporate websites; websites of HR Professional Institutes, such as ; HR practitioner journals, such as Human Resources (the official journal of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management), People Management (the magazine of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development),

Personnel Today; academic journals such as Human Resource Management Journal, Management Learning, etc.; and HRM textbooks to develop a profile of an effective HR manager in the 21st century.

 

Your assignment will be marked on the basis of:

• your ability to demonstrate an understanding of all relevant issues;

• the logical flow and clarity of arguments and ideas; and

• your ability to use HR concepts and theories from Units 1 and 2 to inform and justify your answers.
