Situational Analysis: St Christopher’s Primary School

School Learning Environment

            The main objective of St. Christopher focuses on its belief, that Jesus Christ is the center of the lives of their students, staffs as well as the parents. The school also focuses in making their students to grow in knowledge as well as their faith in a place where in the Christian celebration as well as different Catholic traditions are being valued.

External Factors

Cultural and Social Changes

            One of the most important factors that can be seen inside the school is that all of the entities who are involved in the learning process of the students are engaging in the activities of school. The school is receiving support from the parent body. The parents are assisting in the classrooms, library, tuckshop, excursions, sports, clothing pool and other committee and activities in school.

            Furthermore, the parents has a high expectation from the school that is why they are giving their support to the school in every way that they can such as donation of work time as well as engaging in the learning programs of school.

Educational System Requirements     

            The main focus of the educational system of the school is to develop the Catholic Life and continue the Religious Education of the School. In connection to that, the school is also applying the help of the Internet in order to help the students as well as the teacher in their teaching and learning process.

 

The Changing Nature of Subject Matter

            Due to the fact that the nature of subject is changing, the school is conducting its Archdiocesan Religious Education Test in order to know more about the evolution of the learning behaviour of the students towards the subject.

The Potential Contribution of Teacher Support

            All of the teachers are in-serviced in the units on the Religious Education online. The pastoral leader of the school is also supporting the school as well as the students in many aspects. The school uses the technology of the Internet in order to help their students learn more.

Resources

            The school is using their Computer Lab as well as their Laptop Pod in order to help the students to develop their technical skills. The school also develops their workable database that stores different information about the students as well as data that will help them to analyze the assessment result.

Internal Factors

Students

            The school caters for 400 students and 14 classes. They cater for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Year 6. Most of the students are from Anglo-Celtic background, but the school also handles 20 different ethnic communities.

            The school had been able to handle all of the key learning areas of the students such as English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Human Society, together with its Environment, Creative Arts as well as Personal Development and Health and Physical Education.

            In addition to that, the school is also continuing its effort in improving the physical condition of its learning environment such as their investment for new playground seating and air-conditioning of different rooms.

Teachers

            The staffs have its harmonious relationship with the parents as well as the students. The staffs of the school are also devoted in doing their continuous improvement in their teaching as well as teaching of the curriculum of the school.

School Ethos

The school also focuses in creating a welcoming, respectful as well as supportive learning environment, that will eventually creates good values, self-esteem, as well as team-work and collaboration.

            Furthermore, the school also focuses on letting the parents get involved in the learning process of the children that will help them to contribute as well as participate to the wider community.

            The most important thing is that the school offers a safe, stimulating as well as aesthetically pleasing and functional physical learning environment with different needed resources.

Resources

            The school had been able to install new windows in different part of the classrooms as well as corridor in order to maintain the light environment in the school. The playground was also resurfaced and the toilets had been installed by new urinals and flush cone rubbers.

 

Perceived and Felt Problem in the Curriculum

            One of the primary problems that can be encountered by the school is that due to the fact that their main objective is to teach their students more about their faith and belief about Jesus Christ and about Catholicism. This might affect the time and effort that are being applied by the teachers and staffs in other subject matters.
